Joints are composed of several key structures, including cartilage, which cushions the ends of bones and reduces friction; synovial fluid, which lubricates the joint; and ligaments, which connect bones and provide stability. Healthy joints enable smooth and controlled movements, making everyday actions like walking, bending, and lifting possible.

Key Concepts about Joints in Ayurveda:

Vata Dosha and Joint Health:

Vata is responsible for the proper functioning of the joints, providing mobility, lubrication, and flexibility. It is particularly related to Asthi Dhatu (the bone tissue) and Majja Dhatu (the marrow tissue, which supports bone strength).

When Vata becomes aggravated due to factors like aging, dry or cold climates, poor diet, or excessive activity, the joints may become stiff, and dry.

Kapha Dosha and Joint Stability:

Kapha provides stability and lubrication to the joints. It maintains the cushioning and fluidity necessary for smooth joint movements. An excess of Kapha, however, can cause fluid retention and heaviness in the joints.

    Yoga for Joint Flexibility:

Ayurveda recommends practicing yoga to maintain joint flexibility, strength, and lubrication. Gentle asanas like

    Bhujangasana (cobra pose),

    Virabhadrasana (warrior pose), and

Trikonasana (triangle pose) help improve joint mobility and strengthen the surrounding muscles.
